Medium Blonde Fly – Best Fly Fishing Flies
The Medium Blonde Fly, sometimes just called the Blond, is a well know saltwater fly, and is used by many fly fishermen all over the World. This streamer-type wet fly is best fished on an intermediate or sinking line with a flat out fast retrieve. Sometimes the double haul technique can work very well when “pulling” the Medium Blonde through the water. This fly was originally tied to catch species like Tarpon and Barracuda, amongst other aggressive predatory saltwater fish.

The Medium Blonde fly is a “bigger” fish fly in our opinion, and can be used in the surf, in estuaries and of course offshore. Shallow water reefs and flats can be a good place to tie on a Blond, and strip it fast through the water. Bottom fish occasionally take this fly as well, and the take is very aggressive. The Medium Blonde’s origins lie with legendary Florida fisherman, Captain Dan Malzone. There are a lot of variations of the Blond and it can be tied in many different ways and with eyes or without.
